I love her tone, her strength, her determination, her smarts. Please be aware that Darlene's comment is a major spoiler. Prissy had a lot of boyfriends when I was growing up. I did care about Bean. The book is so much more than that, to me at least.

I had a lot of crushes — Jack Lord from Hawaii Five-O, Hawkeye Pierce, Jerome the Giraffe and Jesus. A peek into the new novel, Mostly Happy, and the rather barmy mind of author Pam Bustin. Pam Bustin was raised in a host of small towns across the prairies and lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Prissy, Bean's 16- year-old mother, added the 'E', which stood for nothing. In a way I thought Dee was better equipped at dealing with her feelings than Bean was, because she was able to admit something was wrong. This is a place I play about in. I liked the places best before we moved in, all bright and clean and empty, the beginning of a whole new story. After moving out of Grandpa Tom's house, Prissy and Bean live on Prissy's waitressing income or on welfare, supplemented by contributions from Prissy's boyfriends.
It was an on again off again sort of affair. Falwell is a unique character whose survival will give hope to readers in comparable situations. Totally enjoyed your post here, and will check out the part on your blog which is not about chickens. I really liked this book. Where we have proven to enjoy Hardbacks over Paperbacks, Vampires over Werewolfs and even Unicorns over Zombies.

When I went away, I started up music inside my head to cover the sounds of what was happening. Also abused and raped, Dee repeatedly tries to committee suicide. I also am left with an overwhelming desire to reread From Anna. So she goes off to meet new people, goes to Bible school and travels around some. A career as an actor is a natural choice for Bean, because she has played roles all her life, because she already has experience with a hand-to-mouth life, and because the acting profession transcends social class.

Falwell from birth to a major epiphany in her early twenties. While portrayed as a victim, Dee does make good and bad choices. She never deserved it, and I never blamed her for taking care of herself when she needed to. They moved so many times, she went to so many different schools-she was almost like a chameleon as she seemed to fit into whatever the school needed whether it be an athlete or an actress. This book is by no means easy to read-the material itself is difficult-abuse. My eyes watered, a little.
